Hello everyone. I was recently diagnosed with inappropriate sinus tachycardia and was prescribed 25mg metoprolol (once a day, taken in AM) for it. Well, I find that taking this med causes me to become quite dizzy and just "off" feeling for about an hr after I take it...Other than that hour or so after I take it I feel fine and my heart rate is in the 60's-70's all day. I told my doc about this and he told me to cut my pill in half and take 12.5mg in the am and 12.5 in the pm. Well, I started doing that and I notice that the 12.5 mg doesn't treat the tachy as well as the 25mg does. I also don't really need the other 12.5 at night because my heart rate is actually in the 60's when I sleep without meds. So, I was wondering...would it be okay to take 12.5 mg at 8am then take the other 12.5 at around noon, so the meds wouldn't get into my system so fast causing the dizziness and what not? I'm can't get ahold of my doctor today but will see him soon so I was just seeing what others think! Thank you!

I don't know thw answer to your question, but I did want to share that I take 25 mg 2x a day. The first week or 2 I felt tired/sluggish/dizzy, etc. Then as my body got used to it I was back to normal, but no SVT or sinus tachycardia. Maybe give it some time to see if your body adjusts?

Hello Carly,
Right, give your body a month or 2 to adjust. I felt weird after taking it, wasn't sure if it was working, feeling tired, meds makes you tired.
Stay on the meds and you know what?.... I take half of 25MG twice a day, every 12 hours. There is a reason for it. The half meds last up to 12 hrs. Once I felt my heart going little fast last year when I was first dealing with this, not an episode but looking back, it was in my 11th hour. DUH!!!!! it was time to take the other half. I didn't know to take it twice a day. SO....... Give it time. :)))
I haven't any big time episodes in a year this month. :))
The meds control the heart to keep it steady.

Also, I bring half a meds with me if I am out somewhere and never know when I do get a BIG time episode, always carry a half pill with you.

- STOP THINKING ABOUT YOUR HEART.-
Move on with your life.....you will be alright, girl.

Carly, you may want to ask your doctor about toprol xl or the metoprolol ER. that is the extended release drug. That way you could take the higher dose and it would absorb slowly over the day. I had the same problem you did and took the second dose earlier on in the day, but then i switched to the XL and have found it to be very good. Everyone is different so you just have to try it. Good luck
