I was diagnosed with osteochondritus dissicants. The OS told me that this was most likely due to a sprain that may have happend to me at some point in time where the talus bone twists up and comes into contact with the tibia (shin bone). He told me that this can cause a bruise to form on the bone (either one) in my case it formed on my talar dome.
I went and got two opinions from two OS's, they both said that in my state surgery would be best. The bruised part of my talus had died off and broken free floating freely in pothole like divit where it was priorly attached.
I underwent arthroscopic surgery to have this removed. They also drilled into the talus to induce bleeding to promote new bone growth. I was in a splint for 2 weeks and then a walking boot for about 4-5 weeks. 7 months later I am still haveing much pain. The grinding sound that used to come out of my ankle is now gone however the pain is worse now than when I went into surgery. I have been seeing a physical therapist for 3 months and a chiropractor for about 1 month. So far there hasn't been much progress. I have not yet had a cortisone shot which I think might be the next step, although I have heard some bad experienses with this such as more pain and the dissintegration of cartilage.
If anyone has any information or similar stories / experiences I would be more that happy to here them. You can e-mail me if you like also: apollosr71@hotmail.com
