I am now almost 5 weeks into my bunionectomy. My foot is still swelling and becomes discolored now and then. I saw my doctor today and we talked about what was going on. He was concerned with RSD. Has anyone had this problem after their surgery.
I also told that I was occasionally putting ice on my foot when it swelled. He told me in no uncertain terms to stop icing it. I had always thought that ice would help the swelling.
He has also recommended a tens unit.
Is this ever going to get better. I will see him back in 2 weeks, so still off my feet. How I dream of the day when this will all go away.

Hi! I had a bunionectomy on Oct. 5. I don't have too much to say, other than my doctor never mentioned ice at all, so I never used it. I figured if it was important for me to ice it, he would have said something in his post-op instructions.

Ask your doctor if it is okay to put ice on the instep of your foot. That's where I was told it should go and I think it really helped.
