I have been having sever abdomial pain whihc I truly believed to be of obgyn nature - cramping, sever pelvic pain, difficulty with bowel movements, sex, etc. My ob ordered an MRI last week and based on the results referred me to a neurosurgeon - she feels it is referred pain. The MRI showed moderate left T6-T7 protrusion and miniaml T7-T8 protrusion. Also miminal bulging at T10-T11.
My primary and a chiropratic friend question the referred pain. I am seeing a physician assistant next week as the neuro guy takes weeks to get into and wants me to see his PA, first.
I am taking hydrocone, as needed, which only takes the edge off of the pain.
I do have a history of rheumatoid arthitus, as well. My question to all - has anyone heard of disc issues causing acute pelvic pain? I realize I am just at the beginning of this medical issue, however it has me scared and sick. I feel very lost and am afraid I will not get answers. Any advice/thoughts/info is greatly appreciated.

Hello! I have pelvic groin pain not sure where your pain is in the pelvis?? They think my pain is differed from my back but not completely sure. Not sure if I can be much help there.
But I was just reading about your bowel problems. You are taking hydorcodone which can cause constipation..bad. If that is your problem make sure your are taking a stool softner, extra fiber or something to help move it along :D
I take Senakot daily and that saves me. I am sure there are other posters that could help you out more but just wanted to say hello!

You should see your OBGYN/Women's Health practitioner first. Pelvic pain can be caused by many things, several of which can be musculoskeletal in nature.
One example is pelvic floor muscle weakness. Weakness of these muscles allow excess strain on the ligaments in the pelvis. Abdominal and pelvic pain are extremely common in these cases.
Do you have any trouble with urinating (i.e. incontinence)?

Hi, i've had large herniations in my lumbar spine that caused severe nerve pain which radiated from my rear, up and around both hips, and into my groin areas. I've also had more localized deep spine pain that was so bad it caused me to vomit and was throbbing, therefore feeling like it was radiating around. Ive had bad sciatica and almost went to the ER b/c I could not have bowel movements, it wouldnt budge and the painnnnn was horrible, I couldnt even try to push, every time i did the pain was god awful. I've also had constipation from pain pills, which ends up causing pain while trying to BM. But I've not had actual pain in my pelvic area such as where I usually get cramps. But who knows, maybe it can refer there. And like others said, there might be something else going on not spine related.

In the case of my neck the pain is mostly in the arm - so with all spinal nerves it can cause pain elsewhere. That being said I would also pursue the ob/gyn route as you'd want to be sure that's not the cause.

Hello:
Definitely go see your OB/Gyn. You would not get cramping from a back problem. Yes, there is often referred pain from the back going into groin area (I had this too, before my micro-d L5-S1), but you seem to be describing a female problem.
Go with your gut instinct. See the OB/Gyn. I'm sure you would feel more comfortable knowing what is or isn't going on in that department. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? Do you have any spotting between periods?
Take care and keep us posted.

I see that it was your ob who ordered the MRI. If I were you, I would see the neurosurgeon to see what he thinks. You aren't committing to surgery by just seeing him. You might have more than one thing going on. If he doesn't feel that your pain can be accounted for by the problems on the MRI, you might want to try another ob opinion. I see that you're in Midlothian. Hi! I'm over here in Chesterfield! We stay anonymous on this board (or we'll get kicked off!) so I can only wave on here. I would recommend Mark Hyde at Virginia Physicians for Women beside Johnston Willis Hospital. He's a gem! Dr. Hyde is very gentle and compassionate, and he'll listen to you. I found him when I was telling a nurse friend about another doctor there who was very patronizing and withheld my medication from me when I questioned her about something. My nurse friend just shrieked and shouted to stay away from her, she was the worst doctor there and a lot of people have had problems with her. She told me Dr. Hyde was the best, and I would agree!
Referred pain is very common, but since your primary doesn't agree with the ob, you might want to get his/her (the primary's) opinion again after seeing the neurosurgeon. But you really do need to see the neurosurgeon to rule things out.
I wish you the best and hope you get some answers soon.
