I've been having recurrent "capsulitis" behind my 1 thru 4 toes.Got a shot of cortisone 6 weeks ago but it's back already. It feels like a pencil is right behind where the toes attach to the foot, plus my arch is extremly stiff.I had arthroscopic knee surgery 6 days ago and the problems started the first night after surgery plus this foot has borne no weight in that time.At the time of the shot, the Pod. wanted to put me in orthotics (of course), but I've heard of so many dissatisfied people.Has anyone been able to conquer this demon?

I had capsulitis from wearing slip on sandles that flopped. My foot doc said it's because then the tendency is to grip with your toes when you walk. He used ultrasound on my foot a few times, and suggested I use a heating pad on it.

rosequartz, thanks for your reply. With immobilty from my recent knee surgery I've done a lot of i'net research on "capsulitis toes"(C T).The common thread seems to be that CT is caused mechanically by improperly loading of the foot by bad footwear.I've now purchased a decent pair of Addidas accompanied with a "Pedag" insole.I just wondered why this crap jumped on my foot overnight? We'll see how this footwear combo works out.

well I haven't had a problem since I stopped wearing those types of shoes. It was funny, I had just bought 3 new pairs of slip on backless shoes and was wearing them for a couple weeks when it started. In fact I wore them to the foot doctor. After he heard my complaint and checked it out he pointed to the shoes and said "there's your problem".....
I said oh no :( I just bought 3 new pairs! Oh well I'm careful now to not wear anything that I need to grip.....If I wear sandles, they have a back to them, but I'm more comfortable in gymshoes or sketchers anyway....
now it's comfort over style for me! I hope your new shoes work for you.....what kind of shoes were you wearing before when you say it happened overnight?

rose', I was wearing the new Addidas I mentioned.I was feeling great when I went in for surgery but the following night the "capsulitis thugs", I guess saw a weak victim and pummeled me.It's been 6 days now and I have about a 50% improvement. Believe you me I'm going to be ultra picky about footwear from now on.Sidebar:Have you known anyone that had orthotics made that were successful?

I used to have custom orthotics when I was about 13, but I didn't wear them as much as I should have because I was a self-concious teen and I didn't want anyone to see them if I took off my shoes in gym class....
I bought some non-custom ones called foot cradles a couple years ago and wore them a little bit and they seemed to feel good. you might want to look them up, they're made out of leather. The hard plastic ones sometimes are hard to get used to.

How was this diagnosed? I am going for an ultrasound of my foot to determince cause of ball of foot pain.
