Okay...I have done my "research", LOL! I actually spent some time literally calling (which I REALLY suggest you do too) companies. Gerber is by far a WONDERFUL company! I called them twice, b/c I had further questions. The first time I called they said they do have polypropelene (non BPA) bottles. They are as follows: The Clearview, Fashion Tints, and Gentle flow (these are the ones you want if you like Advent, Dr. Browns, or Ventaires!! They are similar to Advent in the "system", and reduces colic, etc...so these are the ones I am going to try to find....as for the other companies (I called Evenflo, and First Years), they don't carry BPA free bottles. Playex suggests the Nurser system if you want BPA free (I didn't call them, but found that info on the website). Okay, so then I called Gerber back to ask about sippy cups (my DD uses them) and they said that the only ones that ARE polycarbonate (BPA) is the comfort grips. I assume they have handles. ALL the rest are BPA free!! Nuby's website also has polypropelyne bottles, and those are available at Walmart, I believe. And their sippy cups are all safe (or so it seems). I didn't call Playtex yet and I couldn't think of other companies to call. I suppose you could call Advent and Dr. Browns. The Gerber lady, Lisa, was EXTREMELY helpful and said that even the BPA bottles are actually safe. That they wouldn't sell them to consumers if they weren't safe, because "babies are our business" She said if they were selling stuff that wasn't safe...they would be out of business. That is true, and probably the same for ALL the companies. I am still looking to switch, if nothing more than peace of mind, but I wanted to share my findings with you all. ;)

I'm glad Nuby is safe. I have some Nuby bottles which DS likes, ok. He's been showing GREAT interest in holding his bottle recently but he just succeeds in knocking it out of his mouth. So...I got 4 Nuby sippy cups with handles to let him play around with. I'm still feeding him everything he NEEDS from a bottle but put about 2oz in a sippy cup for him to mess with. He immediately grabbed it and shoved it in his mouth, lol. He doesn't understand how to really get much out of it, as it does require a different type of suck, but he'll learn. I'm not really interested in immediately switching him to cups, just wanted to give him the chance to hold his own, heh. They're the soft spouted ones. He's so proud of himself. I figure I'll just let him have 2oz a day to "play" with until he learns how to actually drink from it, then I'll gradually wean him over by replacing 1 bottle at a time with a cup. Maybe by 7 or 8 months he'll be on a cup, WOOT! So, thanks for sharing what you learned with us. I feel good knowing that his cups are safe. :-)

It wasn't a big deal, I LOVE the internet, and just want our babies safe!;)
Here is some more info, so that you can keep your LO's safer:

I did a search for BPA free and found a great site...can't list it! BUT the site stated that if you look on the bottoms of your sipper cups and bowls, etc (some don't have one...so you may have to call the company themselves) there is the recycled #. A 5 means that it is polypropelene and deemed "safe". A 7 means that it is polycarbonate and "unsafe". Or possibly unsafe (however you want to see it). Just out of curiosity I looked on the bottom of Gerber baby food containers (the new plastic ones that come in 2 packs) these are a 7!!! I could not believe it. I suppose they are safe for storage, but if you are to heat them up, do so in another bowl. I checked my Ikea bowls (got at a yard sale---but perfect size for baby) and they are a 5. Some plastics aren't going to have a number, but this may help for most. Just thought I would share that info. ;)

I posted on the other thread, but for those that are interested Born Free makes vented glass bottles, so they are good for preventing gas just like many of the plastic ones. :)

I drop too many things to do glass, but as I posted on the other thread, Gerber makes a Gentle Flow that is VERY similar to Avent except it is Safe plastic. AND for those who already have a Avent user baby...the nipples are interchangable!! I am getting these this weekend, if Walmart has them! OH! and Sassy Mam have nice safe bottles that are good for colicky babes as well. ;)

What pump do you have? I KNOW that Medela bottles are BPA free. That's what I used when I pumped.

I have the Gerber Express & Go Massaging Manual Breast pump. I Hate the electric ones they hurt. This one is great I love it. I barely have enough money to cover the bills. And I really don't want to get another one. But I don't want to hurt my DS. But like I said I hand wash the bottles and I don't heat on the stove or in the mic. So do you think it is okay? Sherri :)

Personally, I'd keep using them. I use Dr. Brown's bottles for DS and I don't intend on stopping. That's just me though. Oh, I had the electric pump b/c DS couldn't nurse, so the only stimulation I got was from pumping, so electric was pretty much a necessity. I agree, it did hurt sometimes.

Sherri---I think as long as you are handwashing them, and not heating them in the mic, you are okay. BUT if they get really scratched or cloudy, chuck them and get new. I too, used the Medela pump (I get WIC and they covered the cost) and had the Medela bottles, but never used them for feeing, b/c of gas issues. BUT here is another suggestion....I don't know if ALL gerber bottles will attach to your pump (maybe need an adaptor?) but Gerber makes one called Gentle Flow (I think these are wide mouth--very similar to advent bottles), and they are BPA free too. BUT you are taking all the precautions anyway. I just found out about this, and researched it (took time away from cleaning my house...but hey, for my kids its worth it!). I always used Playtex nursers for my DD and the bags are BPA free as well. BUT for Hunter, I have been using Playtex Ventaires (advance, in Canada) and love them, but they are not BPA free. So, I am looking into the Gerber ones, b/c they are cheap enough to replace. I will throw out the others. I bought them off our favorite auction site, and they are used, so I just don't trust them. Have to use them until I replace the other ones though! ;)
