Has anyone out there had urteroscopic stone removal. I have had it done, where they go thru the urethra with fiber optics, cameras and lasers - bust up the stones and then you pass the rest. This is usually followed by a stint put in place. I need some information on the length of recovery time, my Doctors up to now have not been too concerned. I have been thru H... with kidney stones - pain - and pain from the procedure. I have only been able to find one other person who has been thru the surgery, but for peace of mind I need to hear from someone else who has had this done, how long it took to totally recover. This effects my career, and every day life now.

3K -

I am not sure the answer but remember whatever anyone else says that becuase your job is so physical you need to add extra time for that. The doc may put you on desk duty for awhile.

Thanks, I have only worked 8 days since Aug. 23, that is including vacation, that is when I was hit with it. Tried to work several other days, just ended up going home in pain. But after the surgery I was told about two weeks, so I went back to the doctor, he did another CT scan - no stones, so he said it was just taking me a while to heal, not to worry. I have a relative who had it done, he is about 25-30 years older than me but it took him 2 months to be free from pain. I just wanted to see if any other males experienced the same recovery time. I understand there are a lot of factors too, length of time it took to do the procedure, size of stones, ect......... just getting tired of the pain, and wondering about returning to work, we really don't have much of a light duty situation and I have the leave I can take but I am working on two months off now.

I had the ureteroscopy/cystoscopy with a stent in May. They took three stones out, but left the ones that weren't passing in my kidneys. When they took the stent out a few days after the surgery, I actually felt almost completely better. When I had it, they didn't have to cut me open at all. The stent was the worst part for me. It was taped to my leg, so every time I walked or sat down or moved, it felt like it was pulling on my insides (which is probably what is was doing). Do you still have the stent in? Did they have to cut you open? I know when my mom had the ureteroscopy, they did cut her, but with me they just went in without that. Hopefully you will be able to work soon!! I know how bad kidney stones suck!! Have had a few (all this summer).

No they did not have to cut me open, and the stint was removed two days later, which did help a lot with the pain. My residual pain is almost like I still have a stone, no back pain really, 80% in the bladder. I have heard that it can be a longer recovery for men too. I am going to give it a day or so and call back to the urologist office. thanks for the input

I can't remember what it was called, but they had to gi up inot to uterer and grab the stone, they were able to break up the other ones witht he U/S. I also had the stent too, the stent stayed in for a week, after that I felt so much better.
Good luck
gracie
