OK...I have had two MN surgeries on the same metatarsal space (between 3 and 4 toes). 2nd was a success. NOW a MN has developed between the 2 and 3 toes (the most common areas). I am due for surgery in April. First, anyone from STL, MO recommend a good doc? Or is there a method to determine doctors success rates?

Also, if you've had succesful MN surgery, what have you done differently to succeed?

I, too, would like to know of a successful foot surgeon in the St. Louis area. I had bunion and hammertoe surgery last August on my left foot, and it's been nothing but trouble since. Now it appears I have a fractured sesamoid bone (result of the surgery?), and am currently in a big black boot and using some sort of electromagnetic thing for 3 hours/day. I have a MN on my right foot, also, and am reluctant to have anything done about it, due to the complications from this last surgery. Any advice is very welcome! Thanks.

I don't know if it's a problem or not. I seem to remember seeing one or two, awhile back, but I could be wrong. If it's a problem, I'll be glad to give my email address and you can email me if you found a good one in this area.

I had a Mortons Neuroma and I had several injections with an alcohol by my podiatrist and it totally went away.

I was told that too many injections will break down the tissue in your foot and do more harm then good. I have had 3 injections the result wears off fast and the pain comes back worse...

Hi CJ....Been wondering how you've been doing.

I've been going to PT for my foot where they do ultrasound and some sort of transderma (sp) thing, where they put a patch containing anti-inflamation medications and run a small current through the patch. It's suppose to help the medicine get through the skin.

It works pretty nice, but wears off after 4 hours. I also bought a Elasto-Gel Ice pack. That way I can elevate my foot while icing it. Seems to help, but wears off.

My Pod wants to do a cortizone injection, but I've been putting it off. I want to give the PT more time. Overall though I think my foot is about the same. Perhaps I should just stay completely off it for a month.

How are you doing?

Oh, one more thing CJ, my new podiatrist Dx me with Capsulitis. Weren't you diagnoses with the same thing? It hurts right on and around the second and third met heads.

Hi Ron,

How are you ? I have been thinking of you wandering how you were doing. You are doing the right thing, by taking your time. Your PT technique sounds good. I had a similar one that was with electrodes, but it only hurt once I started walking again. I would not get the injections though, it only makes things worse later. You should try to rest it on weekends. Do you elevate you foot daily??

You are right, one of my opinions was a diagnosis of Capsulitis. Personally I feel like I have the trapped nerve and capsulitis. My next option is to get a second opinion soon when I visit NY. I am still in the usual pain and it gets worse if I do not use my bio freeze gel. I hurt a lot this winter, I think it is the cold weather, because I have not been exercising at all lately.

I have done a bit of research on my procedure and found out that it does not have a very high success rate and that the nerve is trapped all over again, along with some scare tissue....

Good to hear from you Ronald
Keep in touch..
