You won't feel a thing during the surgery itself; it's the first week of recovery that can be very uncomfortable. However, ice, elevation, and good pain meds usually make it quite endurable. You shouldn't be asked to walk if it hurts. Unlike knee replacements, "working through the pain" is not advised. I had it done on both feet at the same time; my only real pain came from a nerve that was irritated due to internal swelling. I upped the pain prescription for a couple of days until it went away. Glad I had the surgery.

I just replied to the same question in another thread if you want to read my response! Short answer...not bad at all.

hello, i am 3 weeks after bilateral bunionectomies. i am moving pretty slow but the pain is fairly minimal now. cant walk a whole lot yet. i spend alot of time sitting with my feet up. a great support system has made this process fairly easy. I am thrilled to finally have it overwith. i started seeing a podiatrist when i was 11 and am 40 now, so it was a long time in coming! I would go for it if you can take the time to recover properly and have great friends and family to help out like i do.
good luck!
good luck!
