My Doctoer thinks my enlarged cells are due to too much alcohol consumtion. How long does it take to get the cells back to normal on stopping drinking alcohol, or is it likely that I have a liver problem already?

Have they tested your iron stores and B12? Jill tania333 12-08-2007, 03:52 PM I have enlarged red blood cells also. My dr. said it takes 2-4 months for the blood cells to return to normal after cessation of drinking. I also had my thyroid and vitamin b12 levels checked and my liver. all were normal. have your dr. do liver test. very simple. if he is concerned he will run other tests. good luck and like i said it takes about 3 months of no drinking. luna03 01-13-2008, 07:35 PM After routine blood work done recently, my family doctor expressed concern because my red blood cells appear to be abnormally large... from researching this "phenomena" on the net - and from what he told me - in my case, it is NOT due to drinking (I do not drink) and according to the doctor, my liver, B-12, thyroid, and anything else that could be an indicator checked out fine - he even admitted to being baffled as to what could be causing this - one other thing: he did say that my "triglycerides" are extremely high (which doesn't seem to make any sense either). I was hoping to find out what could cause this and if anyone has any idea on how to proceed in this matter - any response would be greatly appreciated melisa36 01-26-2008, 09:40 PM If your platelets are low it will make your red cells be larger to make up for the low blood platelets. chris5115 01-31-2008, 04:49 PM I do not knowhow to delete this entry chris5115 01-31-2008, 04:57 PM Triglyceride is bad cholesterol but can be easily controled by statins chris5115 01-31-2008, 05:22 PM Triglyceride is bad cholesterol but can be easily bcontrolled with statins |
