I just had blood work done, and my family physician referred me to a hematologist because my RBC (3.74) and my WBC (3.5) are low. I'm freaking out because I can't find any information to help me understand why both of them are low. The other tests (protein, potassium, ferritin) were normal.

Your WBC count is just a little low - and that could be for a variety of reasons, most of which will resolve themselves.
Also, sometimes WBC counts fluctuate. It's a possiblity that you've had a virus or something and your body is recovering. My WBC count went down in 1990. It was 1.0, and then it went down to 0. I had mono at the time. It took a long time to recover. I had a bone marrow biopsy to rule out certain conditions. My mom also has a low WBC count naturally (3.0 - 3.4). It doesn't necessarily indicate anything terrible, so don't worry.
Also, your RBC is just borderline. You could be anemic, low on B12, lots of stuff.
The important thing is to keep an eye on it, but don't worry too much. Most of the time, WBCs bounce back on their own. Have you had other symptoms such as weight loss or fevers?
Hang in there!
