My mom is a 12 year Breast cancer survivor...had been followed over the years...and over the past years ..."watching" spots on her lungs...last june...routine f/u...spots have not changed...but new Tumor has arrived...had biopsy...small cell cancer...could not do trial as she has tumors in her kidney which may not be related...has extensive stage...as after PET scan ...found evidence in her sternum, liver, and spine, lymph nodes....went for traditional 2 drug chemo treatment...at half way mark...tumors were shrinking...not as much as they had hoped..."but going in the right direction"...continued on...at the end of her 4 week cycle...cancer had grown..we got the impression that the Dr. was suggesting stopping treatment...but mom wanted any option...so she went w/ Toptopcan?...which is generally given to patients who have had successful remission w/ primary treatment...and then there is a relapse....since she never had a remission...or positive result...just not sure what to expect...we are respecting her wishes to continue treatment...but as a family ...need to know some guesstimates on time...and doctors not doing that for us...she has partially collapsed lung...3+ CM tumor w/ lymph node involvement in her lung...spots on her sternum...spots in her spine...and 4.5 CM tumor in her liver...I am looking for best and worst case scenerios to help us guide her....i am sorry for all of your pain...lost my Dad to Lung cancer in March of 1998 after diagnos in November,,,had non- small cell...less agrressive than my Mom's...so really scary...any info would be appreciated...take care!

Hi Carol, I am so sorry about your mom. It is such a horrid thing to go through it with one person, but then have a second loved one go through it too....
Kim's hubby Stan was a small cell cancer patient and they put him on that same chemo agent you spoke of. She comes on here regularly, she will be able to give you some feedback on Stan's xp. In the meantime, take care and know that here are so many that will hold your hand as your journey along.

Peace,
Jan
