Hello,

Prior to my surgery (Oct 3), I would have anywhere from 3-6 BM mostly loose everyday. This was fine with me since I had severe diverticulosis and it was important that I not get constipated.

Now 3-4 weeks post-op, I'm just have a horrible time with my bowel habit. My physicians told me that my BM's would be loose but it's formed and thin, never loose. Not only that I have colon spasms and always feel like I'm "full" and uncomfortable.

I did start taking a stool softener everynight and a helping of metamucil at night. Should I be doing something else to get myself regular and help my colon adjust to the surgery? Will this get better or is this what I am going to be facing for the rest of my life?

Just want to know if this is a "normal" thing to work through and if there are something I should be doing to "re-train" my bowels.

Thank you for your help in this and I'm sorry that the above post is somewhat "graphic".
