Well, tomorrow I finally get my MRI on my foot. I've been having the intnese pain in my left foot. Xrays were neg. so dr. has ordered an MRI for tomorrow. Then Thursday I see a foot specialist.
Can anyone tell me what a MRI for the foot is like? Is it your whole body inside or just your foot/feet? Thanks for any info. Wish me luck.

MRI of the foot is a piece of cake. You do not have to go all the way in. If they offer you headphones with music, take it. It's VERY noisy. You have to do your best to hold still. The foot will probably be in a boot-like thing. Good luck. Like you, I had terrible pain in my left foot... had been building and changing sites for 10 years. I had tried orthotics, cortisone shots, physical therapy,... Xray was negative; but an MRI showed a posterior tibial tendon. tear:) I'm off to surgery in 10 days. Hope you get some definitive results. Undiagnosed pain is worse than diagnosed pain. If nothing else, it proves that it's not all in your head and that's affirming.

Elk Lake-
Thanks! Good to know I won't be all the way in that thing. Sorry to hear you dealt with pain so long. I agree that getting a diagnosis is wonderful. That's what I'm hoping I get very soon.
Are you nervous for your surgery? What will be done during the procedure? Will you be laid up for long? I wish you the best on the surgery.

Today's the day you get your MRI results. I'm eager to hear what they found. My surgery is a triple arthrodesis - the fusion of three main joints in the hindfoot. My surgeon said the recovery will take 3 months. I know that at least the first 6 weeks will be non weight-bearing. Then, depending on how the fusion looks on X-rays, I may be able to weightbear in a cast or moonboot for another 6 weeks. I'm not really worried about the surgery. I had a very successful hip replacement 3 1/2 years ago. What concerns me is how I'm going to get up the stairs and into my condo the day after surgery. I have 17 steps to do outdoors. I'm going to ask PT to help me prepare before I'm discharged from the hospital. I had to do the same after the hip; but I was able to weight bear at that point and used a walker. My husband thinks we should have an ambulance take me home and up the stairs. Of course, he's not the one who pays the bills and I know that wouldn't be covered by insurance. I think I'll have him and a neighbor there to back me up and pull me along. A video of that could be a good candidate for some TV show... Cheers!

Elk Lake--
Aww...too funny! I am with you though, the ambulance is too expensive. I'd be having them try to carry me as well. Good luck with it.
Went to foot specialist today. He got my MRI results and showed me that between the cuboid bone and the navicular bone there is a fluid buildup which means inflammation. He said he can't tell me what is causing the inflammation but it has something to do with my cuboid and navicular being cojoined which is not normal.
He gave me a cort shot in the foot (first time I've had one...OUCH). Said for me to wear these orthotics in my shoe. I already had them from a different foot issue. Said if those don't work they will mold me for new ones. If that doesn't work surgery to remove the bone joining the other two will be the only option. I hope this shot works. It seems to feel a bit better tonight. True test will be when I am on my feet all day at work.
It was good to finally know what is going on. Bad thing is my doctors bedside manner STUNK! He was awful. No emotion, no smile, no anything. It was like talking to a robot. His nurse was no better...she'd ask a question and before I could finish answering it she'd interrupt and ask me another one. I almost said something but just let it go. I think if I keep having pain I will be going to an ortho. doc instead of this podiatrist.
Anyway keep your fingers crossed that this cort. shot works. I hope so.
Exactly what is the date of your surgery? Nov. 7 or 8?
Take care ,
Lynn
