Blood was found when I had my physical by the anal finger sweep. I have made an app't with dr & am wondering what I can expect during the first exam? How do you calm your fears of what they will find? I am worried how my DH will handle this if it is cancer. Thanks.

It could be something as simple as a hemorrhoid. I was having bleeding during #2's. It looked like a LOT of blood, but it doesn't take much blood in water to look like "alot". I freaked out, assumed I had cancer, etc. I had a colonoscopy and I have two very small hemorrhoids that were causing the bleeding. Talk about feeling relieved!

When I went to my GP about the bleeding, she didn't do an exam or anything. She automatically ordered a colonoscopy, which I was thankful for. It's the only way to know what's truly going on. I would demand this procedure. The procedure itself is a piece of cake. The prep isn't real fun, but not as bad as I thought it would be either.

Try not to assume the worst. If you're bleeding that close to the opening, it's most likely a fissure or hemorrhoids. Still, you need to be checked just to be on the safe side.

Thank you so much for taking time to reply. I know they will want to do a colonoscopy. Thanks again!

Wife had the same problem, bleeding after she went #2, our doctor is the best, right away said the only way to really know is a colonoscopy...prep is not great, but the test is a breeze....most people don't feel comfortable with the invasion or whatever, but heck what is there to hide when you life is laying out there....DOn't worry, I am sure you will be just fine, but the ultimate tool to know and have peice of mind is the colonoscopy
