View Full Version : Just Had Nerve Conduction Tests

Hi guys! I just had nerve conduction tests performed on my right leg/ankle/foot four days ago. I didn't know what to expect and I found the procedure to be somewhat torturous. The neurologist had me lay on my back first while he jabbed needles somewhat deeply into different points of my leg,
starting with the right hip. I didn't see it coming and I almost rolled off the tablet. Then he had me lay on my stomach and jabbed away at different points on the back of my leg/foot and ankle. He was trying to determine if I had generalized neuropathy or something more focal. Well, I was diagnosed with severe tarsal tunnel syndrome and referred out to an orthopedic surgeon who I'll be seeing in about a week. I'm cuious to find out what he'll say because I've seen this surgeon around 2 & 1/2 years ago. I have arthritis in both ankles and he wanted to FUSE THEM BOTH, but I refused to have these procedures done. After researching these procedures, I found that for the most part, people were worse off, that the healing process was lengthy (in some cases over a year) and very few individuals seemed able to work. Since I have nobody to depend on but myself, being unable to work for even a month means I will be out on the street. I am hoping that a steroid shot and some physical therapy will help this TTS that's developed, but I just don't like
this surgeon I'm about to see. The problem is, he's supposed to be the expert
foot and ankle guy in my area and he's the one I'm always referred to. Anyways, thanks for letting me vent. It's been a long time since I've posted,
but I was getting depressed reading about the process/outcome of triple
arthrodesis surgery. The neurologist says the TTS is due to the arthritis b/c
I'm walking improperly to avoid pain. If this surgeon starts talking about fusion again I think I'll scream!
