Hi,

i need to know if someone can help me with figuring out a sleeping problem of mine that is connected to a relapse that i had a few months back.

i was taking risperdal and epival when i decided to cut back on them as i was feeling better. what i did wrong was that i stopped them too quick and i fell into depression. along with the depression i've been waking up very early in the morning and having persistent insomnia, and thereby not getting enough sleep, having memory problems, and a host of other ill effects.

i need help in knowing if someone has had the same problem with waking up very early in the morning after cutting back on either risperdal or evipal in a short amount of time.

thanks,

Azmatic

Yeah I recently had the very same problem with risperadal though it started out not allowing me to get some much needed sleep other then two to four hours of broken up slumber. So I started taking the med in the morning rather then at night like it was prescribed. So after some days of playing catch up it seems to be doing better. Hope that helps. Hope you get some sleep too! :D

Hi Az(if you mind me calling you that)...
Welcome to the board...
I don't have any experience with Risperdal but I saw you were new here and I wanted to say hi. I don't know much about meds yet but I take Seroquel and it knocks me out and helps me sleep all night. Of course that's when I take it and I got chewed out from my parents, my therapist and those from here on the board lol...they're only doing it cause they care and I know that..You may want to ask your Pdoc about Seroquel though and give it a whirl if you can. Good luck and I hope you get a good night's rest soon.

I haven't taken Risperdal, but I have had the experience of cutting back too quickly - or just deciding once again that there's nothing wrong with me and I don't need meds, so I have just stopped.

Wrong thinking!

Were you able to tolerate the meds you were on? If you were, and you were sleeping, why not go back on them? Insomnia is such a trigger for us, and that early morning waking, I believe, is classic in depression.

I hope you get on some more meds soon, so you can get some rest.

Peace and a blessing,

Seaturtle

Thanks for the help. yeah i've tried seroquel and it does knock me out but it had some undesirable side effects on me.

i'm still taking the medications as i went back on them after the relapse.

i just hope there's nothing that's gone critcally gone wrong in my brain and is the cause of me waking up very early in the morning.

Hello Azmatic,

Welcome to the board.

No, don't worry that you have somehow done permanent damage to your brain. Things will most likely straighten out when your body adjusts to the meds. Most likely the problem stems from the meds needing a bit of tweaking. Will you be seeing your pdoc soon?
