Hi,

I was on tegretol CR 400.... I am wandering if they are the same thing...I am from australia and have noticed that some orethe same but have different brands and different names....
The tegretol Cr was ( controlled release ) so it relased ove the whole 12 hours

I was on them for just over 10 years and they belived i was gaining a immunity to them for the length of time i was on it plus my seizures getting worse on top of it...

i am now after several ( well a bucket load ) of different tabs and combinations.. on keppra 1000/1500 together with Lamictal 300/300

I do find this to be the best controll i have had in a long time which isnt all that great... but for me better then it was....

In saying all of that....

Every single person is soo sooo sooooooo very different... what some will have side effects to others will have great sucess... I think its a matter of talking to your nero and other specialists if you are finding you havnt got as good of control as you did previously or think you could have better...

It could b a adjusting your dose adding a secondry medication.... or the doctor could be happy...

If i was you I would mention you are wanting to know and speaking and comming to an informed decison everyone on here can only give you their own experinces which is not and never will be the same as yours or mine

Good luck
i hope you come to the correct dose or a choice of new medc that suits you
best health and a seizure free future..

Can you elaborate at all SB?

I've been on TegXR 200's and 400's for a while as my primary medication. Secondary's (add-on's) have helped such as Keppra or Dilantin, as well as Topamax.

Not in every case do we find that monotherapy (one med) will work to control seizures. Speaking in general, you may need to have an add-on if it seems that Teg is becomming ineffecient. Your Dr will know best what to do.

Tripp has been on Teg xr 400mg three times daily....the neuro thinks that it is no longer working to control his seizures...so we are going off it. He has been on it for as long as I can remember!! Anyways, she wants to try and get him on Depokote only....we have been slowly going off...down to 400mg am and 200mg pm...and taking depokote 750 mg am and 750pm...I'll keep you all informed!

She said we may want to try going to the depakote ex too.
