Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

Last year I tested postive for high risk HPV. well, I had my one year check up and I tested nagitive for HPV but my pap came back abnormal. What does this mean?

The doctor did not think it was anything to worry about and we would check it again in one year.

needless to say I am a bit on edge.

anyone have this happen to them? what was the out come?

Hi, I'm kind of in the same situation. I've had two abnormal paps in the last six months, and a biopsy that came back CIN I. My HPV test a month ago was negative.

They only tested for high risk strains so it may be that I have a low risk strain of HPV that is causing the dysplasia. Right now we are repeating the pap every 4 months to keep an eye on it.

Did the doctor say what the pap result was besides abnormal? Do he say ASCUS or dysplasia? I'm a bit surprised that they want to wait one year to recheck instead of 4 months.

she only said well, we have some good news here. your HPV test is nagitive unlike last year. your pap came back a little abnormal but I don't think it is anything to worry about. So, I asked if I have a nagitive HPV test why do I have an abnormal pap. She said most often then not it doesn't mean anything and that we would check again in one year.
