Hello. A few months ago I had a LEEP procedure performed and I had no problems with the procedure. However, when my results came back my doctor was very unhelpful with reading the results. I was told if the abnormal cells where past the margin then that could mean that there were more abnormal cells or it could possibly be invasive. According to my doctor mine went up to the margin and he really was not helpful after that. I was given 2 options of course one being a Hysterectomy, or the CONE procedure, or just to wait and do another pap smear.
I asked my doctor if we could try to have a baby now, and his response was 'No' because it may become invasive.

My procedure was in July and it is now October and I am pregnant. I am tormented by the last advice of my doctor

Hey

did he tell you how far developed these cells were? CIN I, II, III??? This is important to know before you think of anything else. If for example you had CIIN I but the margins were not clear it would simply mean that there is a possibility they havent removed all the pre-cancerous cells and may have missed some.

Or if you had CIN III and there wasnt clear margins then it may mean that they go deeper than they expected so might need to do a cone biopsy (which my step dad's sister had a few years ago) and then she was fine. I am asuming you must have CIN III as you doctor is talking about hyterectomy? I would go for a second opinion if I were you.

I would go to a different doctor immediately and ask for a better explanation. I must admit the letters we get in the uk are not very good either, it doesnt even tell you if there was clear margins or not...it just says you have CIN III (for example) and hopefully you cervix will be back to normal in you follow up...and thats it!!!!! So I have limited information about mine.

the other thing that confuses me is that these pre cancerous cells take years to actaully become cancer and I mean years. My doctor said once you have CIN III (which I have) it can take on average 10 years to become actual cancer. Have you been going for regular smears? I would definatley go for a secons opinion as it seems to me your doctor is not givin you solid information which is what you need!

Thank you for your response. I went to see another doctor today and he explained that it is CIN II and I had another pap smear today, so I have to wait on the results to see if it is still showing abnormal cells.

During the same appointment he did an ultrasound to see how my pregnancy is developing, so far pregnancy looks good....but the doctor informed me that if the test still show abnormal cells; that I should really think hard about carrying the pregnancy to full term.

So, I am praying the results are normal.
But this doctor told me that I did not need a hysterectomy and the next procedure would be the cone biopsy.
