When I was in eight grade, my older sister shared with me her concerns about split ends after reading an issue of Cosmopolitan. She always had beautiful hair. Anyway, after that (because my sister was so impressionable) I started focusing on my split ends. I started picking at my split ends and because I have such fine hair, I started pulling out my hair. I now (just turning 30 years old) continue to focus on my split ends. I pull my hair out all the time searching for split ends. I don’t pull my eyelashes or any other hair out. I would do anything to stop and have normal hair but I can’t. I pick all the time when I at work, at home, bored, and mostly driving. Again, mostly when my attention is short and I need something to do with my hands. Is there anything I can do? I have considered hypnosis but it is expensive. I don’t feel comfortable if my hands are not in my hair picking and searching and even after I pull my hair out, I look for split ends. Any suggestions?

I had a professor who said if you had a bad habit (ie cracking knuckles) wear a hair tie / rubber band around your wrist and snap it each time you crack your knuckles (or pull out your hair). But the catch is it HAS to be hard, it HAS to hurt. and you HAVE to be religious about it. Do it every time, and do it hard, and she says the habit will be broke in a week.
personally, i was never able to keep up with it cracking my knuckles but I dont have that motivation lol. Worth a try maybe.
