View Full Version : Here's what I found out

Hi all. Well, went to see the podiatrist and here's what I found out.

He looked at my MRI and said it shows fluid buildup from inflammation between my cuboid and navicular bone. He said it's because those bones are cojoined which is not normal.

He gave me a cort. shot in my foot (first ever for me, OUCH). He said I have to wear the orthotics I had from when I had plantar fascitis. If that doesn't work he said they will mold me some special orthotics. If that doesn't work he said surgery to remove the cojoining bone will be the only option. I hope it doesn't come to that.

My foot seems a bit better tonight but real test will be when I am standing on my feet all day at work.

Only bad thing about my appt. was the doctors bedside manner. To be honest it STUNK. He just sat there like a robot. Absolutely no emotion, no smile, no nothing....ugh. It was like I was trying to get him to talk. Weird! His nurse was not much better. Kept asking me questions and while I was trying to answer she would interrupt and start on the next question. I almost said something but decided to let it go.

I think if I should continue to have pain I will be going to an ortho. doc instead of this guy. I normally let things slide but his demeanor just made me uncomfortable.

I am happy though to finally know what is going on.

Okay, well, just wanted to update everyone.

Have a good evening.

Glad you got an answer. Hope the orthotics do the trick!

Thanks Misfish90. I hope they do too. I've been doing some more reading online and I think the technical name of what I have is : cubonavicular coalition. Hope there's no need for the surgery.

Anyway, thanks again.

Hi Lynn,

I had to smile at your comments about your podiatrist because it sounded exactly like mine That's why I decided that he was NOT going to do my surgery. I sought out an ortho surgeon instead. It seems to me that the surgeons like to treat the bunion (surgery) and the podiatrists like to treat the symptoms (orthotics). Seeking a surgeon's opinion is a good idea and then you decide. I don't blame you for not wanting surgery (amen to that) but sometimes getting the problem fixed earlier rather later before it worsens can be beneficial.

I don't plan to return to my podiatrist. Best wishes to you. Keep us posted.

Mary-

Glad to hear someone feels like me. I had the feeling it was something like that when it comes to pod. versus orthopedic surg. If I have more pain, I will be like you and head to the ortho.

I know what you mean about doing surgery earlier rather than waiting too long. A lot of nerve and blood vess. damage can occur if you don't take care of stuff soon enough.

Thanks for note.

Have a nice weekend.

Lynne
