The Dr.'s tell me I have Hypocitraturia:confused: . I started about 7 years ago I had a stone (no big deal) and then I got pregnant with my second son. I Dr's told me I just wanted pain killers and it was just one stone after a week the pain was gone and I forgot about it. Until the end of June this year when the nightmare started I started to pass a stone so I went to the ER were they told me I had 8 stones in my left and 12 in my right ranging from 2mm to 5mm. So I saw a uro who wanted to just let them pass he said they will most likely stay in my kidney with know problem. Hahahah In the following month or so I had to go to the ER 4 or 5 times every time I go a CT and was told I had stones. In sept. I had surgery to get a 3mm stone out of my left that had gotten stuck? Since July I have passed 30+ stones ( I stopped counting to 30) I think I'm around 50. If I hear one more Dr say " I've never seen someone make stone this quickly" or " I don't know" I think I'm going to scream. I read most of the posts and I'm just glad to have someone to talk to.

Hi...I have Hypocitrauria too. I've passed several stones in the last year and both my kidneys are full of small stones. My urologist put me on a med called potassium citrate which is supposed to help. It's makes me feel cruddy so I'm not sure if I want to take it or not unless I'm sure it'll really help. In the meantime I drink a lot of water!

Just wanted to let you know that you're definetly not alone!! ((HUG))

Thanks for writing:)

Is your pH always high too? Mine is around 7.5-8.5 all the time . I have only been on the Urocit-K (potassium citrate) for a few weeks and I do notice the stones don't hurt as much but I still can't work because of the pain. I'm still passing about 1 2-3mm stone per week and specks everyday do you know of any other meds? Maybe I just need something stronger. Do you have other health problems? I have migraines and I have lost about 40lbs in the past 6 months. I'm also tired all the time. Although since the Urocit it has been allot better. How much of the Urocit do they have you on I take 6 pills a day although they may change it to 8. May be your not on enough of to much.

What is Hypocituairua? My Dr's have told me something about my kidneys not filtering citrate well then have told me i have uric acid stones. Is that similar? Sara- I have been in the same boat. I passed 2-4 stones a week during my pregnancy and my OB told me to stop coming to the ER- because he didn't want me to start likeing the pain meds too much. What a jerk. So I switched to a new OB and she was so sweet and sympathetic to me about it all. I had to be put on a pain pump at the end of my pregnancy for a week- thank goodness my daughter was okay. Almost everytime I had a ultra-sound on my kidneys it showed 10-15 stones in each, too. Ever since I continue to pass them about 4 or more a month. I hate it and now see a pain management specialist because I was tired of getting attitude from my urologist for asking for a small amount of hydrocodone each month. I don't like taking the Uricit K either and haven't really noticed it helping. I go on and off it. I feel bad all the time, nauseaus and in pain all most all day everyday. Have they found any answers at all why you are doing this and if you can make it stop? I'm afraid that it is ruining my kidneys but, the Dr's say it won't as long as I keep an eye on it. I don't believe that. I know I have so much scarring already---I'm afraid of one day loosing my kidneys and/ or being put on dialysis. Hopes this makes you see you are not alone. I'm knew on this site and have never before met people with my same problem. My Dr told me he has only had one patient like me and that man is in his 70's and only made like 60 stones in his whole life. To make matters worse, I allergic to Toradol (the anti-inflamitory they give for kidney pain) and IVP dye (iodine) they put in your vains for CT's to see the stones better -most of the time they can hardly see my stones so I never no how many I have at one time-other than the pain and we rarely can break them up. This was long winded sorry.

Hi

I have hypocitraturia too...I am on Urocit k for life.

By the time my stones were discovered it was too late to save my right kidney.

If I don't take the urocit, my citrate level falls below the danger level.

Urocit k replaces the citrate in your urine that would normally be there were it not for this metabolic abnormality. the abnormality does not go away.

this is important because, instead of the calcium in your bloodstream going to your bones, it goes to the kidneys and forms stones.

In the case of uric acid stones, your doctor should be putting you on a non-purine diet, in addition to the urocit k.

Believe me, you are not alone.

I also take Urocrit and find O am less cruddy if I eat right away. I have high ph so they added HCTZ. We shall see if it helps. I also habe high calcium in my blood - sigh - what next. You are not alone. I am tired of the docs finding yet another thing every time I go for a test as well. And the next doc who looks ay my records and goes Wow I have NEVER seen that before WILL and I repeat WILL get smacked!
