I have been battling plantar fasciitis for over two years. I have tried taping, ice, NASID,orthotics (have 8 different kinds) night splints, good shoes, casting twice and physical therapy. The fourth coritsone injection ruptured the fascia. 2 Ortho. surgeons have said that surgery wont help. Has anyone had ESWT? That was recommended but I was told that it is only available in Canada. I live in Ohio. PF has left me with a permanent limp and constant pain and burning. I am unable to stand for any length of time. Any suggestions..

Oceanbreeze,
Have you found anyone with info on ESWT
We live in CT and found one Surgical Center that offers it here. Have not inquired yet but am looking for some personal accounts or experience with this.
My wife is trying to recover from back surgery and the walking part of her therapy is nearly impossible.

I, too, have been suffering with plantar fasciitis. For about a year and a half, now, I think.
I had gained about 50 lbs over a 2 year period, and it was after the weight gain that my the PF started.
I wear orthotic insoles now. My feet still hurt, but not as much.
I'm concentrating on my health now, and hope to start losing weight. Maybe that will help me get rid of the PF once and for all!

I was diagnosed with PF for over 2 years (symptoms similar to yours) before I got any real help. I had all the same treatments you did without any success. Finally I found an ortho that said I never had PF, in fact I just had worn down the joints and other parts of my foot because it's out of alignment. I've had very flat feet all my life. He is recommending surgery (calcaneal osteotomy) that he says has an excellent chance of success. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

I did experience discomfort with the night splints. I was unable to wear them throughout the entire night as the pain became too intense.

The key is early intervention. Never go barefoot. Get good shoes (crucial) orthotics if you can. Stretching should be a routine for you. All of these things in combination can give you some relief BUT it takes time.
I have been battling this for over two years. I finally have some relief but mine situation was complicated by a tear in the fascia caused by an injection. good luck

I cant use the splints all night long so i keep them as long as i can its too much pain. I forgot to tell you i had a achilles tendon repair about 4months ago and yesterday the doctor told me that i might have tendonitis also she sent me for an mri. Im so tired already its too much pain i cant hardly do anything. The doctor told me to do streching excersises like you said and im taking therapy too he also told me to freeze up a bottle of water and while im watching tv just to roll it under my feet i really hope all of this work.

you are proceeding in the right direction. I cannot wear the splint all night long either it is too painful. Stretching works but you have to keep up with it. Whenever you are sitting you should try to stretch you foot several times a day. The ice at the end of the day is a good pain reliever. Have patience. Remember no bare feet and no thin soled shoes. Everything in combination should give you some relief.

I, too, have been battling PF. Has anyone had experience with a Strasburg Sock. My podiatrist suggests it but doesn't have a resource. I can't find it on the Web. Anyone know where it can be purchased?

for the "strassburg sock" go to www.thesock.com (http://www.thesock.com) you can find it there. the reason you could not find it is it was misspelled.

I also have PF. I just put a Topic on the board called PF--NEED HELP. Of course that was before I read this one. If anyone would like to read it and respond to it I would appreciate it. I have a night splint too. I can sometimes wear it all night depending on how much pain I am in when I put it on. When I first got the night splint and got up in the morning I didnt have any pain when I took it off and walked for the first time after sleeping all night but since I finished therapy on Aug. 4 the brace and the exercies my physical therapist told me to do at home have not been helping. I have been having a lot of pain for the last week and a half. I have tried several anti-inflamatory meds, but I dont get much relief from them. I have tried a pain pill that works but I dont like to use it all the time b/c I dont want to become addicted to it. My physical therapist recommened a type of shoe called Aasis and they cost me $85.00. I do have relief when I wear them, but I am to wear them from the time I get up from sleeping till the time I go to bed and I have a very hard time doing this b/c I like to go bare footed and you CAN NOT do this with PF. The ice massages do work but only for a short time unless you plan on doing them all day long. I do not have orthodics in my shoes and I am wondering if I might need them. I am also wondering if there is a splint that I can wear during the day and not something that just slides in my shoes like the orthodics. I am thinking about seeing an orthopedic doctor soon if the pain does not go away. If anyone has any answers let me know.

Thanks

Snooter,

Definitely go see the ortho if you can find a good one. My podiatrist told me I had PF for three years and finally just said to stop exercising and my physical activity. I wasn't ready to do that so I found an orthopedist specializing in feet and ankles and he said I never had PF, my foot was just all out of alignment. When I did the stretching and splints and orthotics they always helped a little bit at first but quickly returned to the normal pain. So good luck with the ortho.

See an Ortho. who specializes in foot and ankle.I have seen three! Your orth. inserts should not be sliding around in your shoes. I did find that the taping that the PT providid also helped when I was in the most pain did help with discomfort. good luck.
