View Full Version : Mortons Neuroma Surgery

I have read an awful lot of negative responses from people who have had surgery and I post the following because I never read about anyone having a "release" in surgery for a Mortons Neuroma. I have had two successful surgeries. One on each foot by an ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON"...NOT A PODIATRIST. The neuroma is kind of trapped in like in a box with a ligament running across the top of the box. Each time you step down or do something with the foot it pushes that turmor/neuroma up against the top of the box/ligament and you get pain...the neuroma can get large due to the irritation. I read all the time where a doctor goes in there and cuts out the tumor along with the nerve and it does work lots of times but you also have numbness. My doctor...cuts through the top of the foot through the ligament and kind of just makes room for the neuroma to move around so when you step does it is not pressing against the ligament. NOTHING IS CUT OUT OR REMOVED. It has worked for me but I never read anything about anyone having this procedure...I am older over 50 and play competitive tennis. I actually have a third one but like the last one I have had to pay out of pocket because my docotor is not on my HMO List ... but I would rather save the money than have some Podiatrit cut into me because the one I saw was surprised at my first surgery...obviously he had never done one....Good Luck to all

Can a Morton's Neuroma be caused by a fractured distal fibula?? I fractured my ankle 6 weeks ago, and have been having trouble ever since. Thanks

TennisDave,

Can you please post the name/location of the Dr. that did your surgery?

Thanks

Tennis Dave,,,,,,I also had a neuroma between 2nd and 3rd toe, and when I had a bunionectomy and 2nd toe ligament release, my doctor did what you had done. However, has any dr. ever mentioned to you chemical destruction of the nerve? Apparently, that is the latest thing, rather than surgery, several injections into the nerve destroy it and eliminate the pain. I imagine the discomfort is similar to when you have a cortisone shot for the neuroma.
