I've been experiencing rapid hair loss for about the last year now ( I am a 32 year old woman). There is male hair loss in my family, but I recently read that putting hair into pony tails on a regular basis could cause hair loss. I've been a regular pony tail wearer for probably 10 years. Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced it? Can using women's rogaine help? Will my hair grow back if I stop putting my hair in pony tails? Any info at all would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, it can cause the hair to fall out...and at 32 I would expect the only time you should wear one is when working out/jogging, etc.

It depends on how tight you are wearing the ponytail. If you are just loosely tying the hair back with a scrunchy, then no, it will not cause hair loss. If it's pulled tight and stressing the roots, then it can cause the hairs to slip out or break.

Yes, definitely use the scrunchy. Rubber bands or similar hair bands, will pull your hair out. Also, when you let your hair down, massage your scalp, it helps to stimulate it. I do this and it helps alot. By the way, some other causes of hairloss are thyroid issues, poor diet, low iron, or side effects from certain medications.
