Hello,
I have discontinued Actonel. I plan to take strontium citrate along with magnesium, calcium, and vitamin d. Has anyone seen positive results with this combo? Has your bone density increased? What doses do you take? I read that we should take equal amounts of calcium and magnesium rather than the 2:1 ratio that is usually recommended. I am not sure what to take. The doctors are not helpful. Maybe a homeopathic doctor could help. I am not sure where to go for help. I would appreciate any feedback.
:( Thank you.

Hi wolf0999 and welcome  to the board. I've been taking strontium citrate for over a year and had improvements in both total hip and lumbar spine. I take 2 340mg. caps a day at bedtime on an empty stomach. I take 1000/D calicum, an extra 500mg. magnesium, an over 50 multivitamin and fish oil. I don't think mega doses of anything is a good idea, but thats just my thinking. I don't know if i make ratio totals, but have had good lab numbers in the needed nutrients. Getting what we need from supplements in additon to what we get from our diet and exercise is doing the best we can for our bones. take care...phyllis

Hello phylwill1152,
Thank you for your reply. I will order the strontium citrate I saw online from Dr. Best promptly and start my new regimen of supplements and vitamins. I have discontinued Actonel for 1 week; I was due for my weekly dose today. I am happy to find an alternative to help me since I have developed heart palpitations after taking Actonel for 9 weeks. Thanks again.

Sounds like you have had good results with the strontium citrate. Any side effects from it. I have problems with a lot of meds especially if taken on an empty stoamch.

Hi sunny...i haven't had any side effects from the stontium and none of the people i know taking it have, but everyone is different. I take NSI strontium and the bottle says it can be taken with food as long as its not a high calcium food like milk or yogurt.
Hi wolf...when i stopped actenol after 2 months i waited a month before starting the strontium...no one told me to do it that way, i just wanted to try and get it out of my system before i started something else.
take care...phyllis

Hey Wolf,
I too discontinued Actonel and started taking strontium citrate. I was diagnosed osteopenia. I only took the Actonel twice but the nausea and indigestion were unbearable. I waited two weeks and started the strontium. I too take about 1200 ui calcium, 800 Vit D from a multi and an extra magensium besides whats in my multi. I take my strontium at bedtime though it syas it can be taken with food. Last night I had terrible painful indigestion (thought it was my pancreas or gall bladder!) BUT I dont think it was from the strontium since I have been takig it for over two weeks.........I havent read any side effects from it........
GOOD LUCK:)

Wolf, maybe taking it at bedtime did not agree with you and lying for so long.

I've been on strontium citrate since September with absolutely no side effects whatsoever.

Hello Wolf... sad to say but we get more help from such health boards as these rather than our doctors. They don't seem to know a thing about strontium!

Nor do they have any desire to learn about strontium or anything else alternate, for that matter:mad:
