View Full Version : GERD and Hyoid Bone

OK. I know this sounds off the wall but I'm getting desperate here, people. When I saw the ENT spec couple weeks ago, I told her I had knot or cyst way in back of my throat. She immediately said that was my hyoid bone. It's a u shape bone that just hangs there but most people don't have them sticking out. I feel like when I eat at times that food gets stuck on the right side of my throat where this little peice sticks out. She said to use water pic several times if I felt the need and that the reflux meds would help. Maybe, just maybe that is why my voice has been so good! I also would feel like right side of my sinus would get full when eating so couldn't this bone press up into my sinus? I can't press it on the inside and see where it pokes out my throat. I do know that removing all the mucus stuff way back there helps me to feel better and the best part is I can practically sing a song! That is if I could sing. You can understand me and people have commented on how well I sound. The retched sickness seems to be subsiding too although I didn't sleep a bit last night. Last week I could have sleep 24 hrs since so sick at my stomach. Anyone ever heard of this bone. After looking it up it does say that it's based at the bottom of the tongue to help with swallowing and speech. I'm excited even if the Dr. wasn't all that much since my voice is so good. I beyond believing one size fits all. Some can take PPI and go on about their lives but seems people with LPR have more problems that keep returning.

If anyone has any information on this, I'd be very interested to hear. We've all got to keep searching for one another to get well once and for all.

I don't have any info on the hyoid bone, but I know when I use that NeilMed sinus wash in my nose at night, I usually feel better the next day. My nose and throat are less irritated and I can breathe a little better.

I'd never even heard of it but it does seem to really help with all the extra mucus and crap in my throat when I do nasal irrigations and use my water pic more. I was treated for allergies and took shots for quite a few yrs but last test results were very good and I no longer have to take shots. I swear, I think allergies and reflux are all connected somehow since I never had one till I got the other. Never had asthma or lung problems either and it's been proved acid can cause these problems. I worry about what else it's doing.

Thanks for the reply and hope you are doing ok.

Charla
