Hello Friends,
It's been awhile since I was on this board. My husband is 5 months post op. He's doing well as far as the PC is concerned. At this moment he is cancer free. However, I do have concerns about his attitude. He is very negative and very depressed. I understand that what he has/or is going through is very normal for a man after surgery and loosing his manhood per say. He is on med's for depression. Before he went on this medication he was able to climax without an erection. Since taking his medication he is unable to get an erection or evan climax now. He is interested in the erection needle and wants to stop his med's.
Hubby has suffered depression for many years, and since he found out he had PC it got worse. Now this needle thing. I am unsure about this and does it work? If he starts getting this needle will he have to depend on it for the rest of his life or is it temp? On his next visit in January to his specialist he is going to get some info on this. He does not want me to attend this meeting. So I am seeking answers on here.
Thank you for your help in advance.

First things first...
In my opinion, post-op life for a man recovering from any type of RP procedure can be relatively normal with patience and an understanding partner. However, the same life is not even close to being normal with depression of any form mixed in.
For now, I suggest he deal seriously with his depression as his top priority. Once he has his head screwed on right and his demons under control, his ED problem won't look like such a big challenge.
After all, 5 months is not a very long time when it comes to RP recovery. Some urologists ask their patients to go as long as 18 month to two years for a full recovery.
There are two forums on this website, "Depression" and "Depression Tips", that are chocked full of great posts about the entire topic of depression.
It's all about priorities!
;)
Yes, 5 months is only a short time in this context.
Regarding your questions on if injections work and if it would be needed continually, it's difficult to know as everyone is different: in many cases viagra or injections or pumps work, and are only needed until erections return naturally, which, as suggested, can take up to 18 months.

the two of you need to realize there are other things he can do to satisfy and you should try and work on those things. most people stop doing the shots 70 percent after 5 years. Inflatable implants have satisfaction rates of 98 percent. But once implanted you won't be able to get back to natural erections.

Good stuff...
70 percent after 5 years?
I'd like to read more about that topic...
Can you provide references?

Thank you all for responding. I tell my husband all the time that he is rushing into things and that sex is not everything. I realize that but he doesn't. I honestly believe that he also needs to work on his depression before anyhing else as it is ruining our marriage. I will keep this info in mind about the injections, pump, etc.... Thanks once again

Yeah...
My wife tells me all the time, "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus".
After all these years I think I'm finally getting her point. Men put way too much importance on their penis. If the darn thing doesn't work right, men think it's the absolute end of the world. It's a pretty stark relationship if that's the only thing keeping two people together.

Hi jarhead3,
You'll find some good information on the Sexual Dysfunction Treatment Board about this subject -- there are quite a few posts there about both injections and implants. Those by specialdee and doj, in particular, have really good information with first-person accounts of their experiences.
