I didn't know that there was a message board dental problems and I could really use some advice. I have peridontal diease and I have about 19 teeth left. Well of course I have been to couple of dentist and they have worked my mouth for the past 12 years and the teeth I have left well, theres a cavity here some of them need root canals and its very costly without insurance. Would I be better off to have what I have left pulled and get dentures? Help please!

I had a whole lot of problems with my teeth. At 17, root canal on front tooth, 6 mos. later that pulled the front top 4 where I had the root canal done and replaced it with a partial plate. At age 19, had the bottom front 4 pulled and another partial plate put in. Between the the ages of 19 to 30 had several teeth remove due to abcesses and the remaining 11 decayed all the way down to the root. So by 30, I had all them removed and got dentures. That was 14 yrs ago when it didn't cost as much as it does now. With the price of of what one root canal is you're better off going to one of those affordable denture places and have the remaining ones pulled and get dentures, especially if you have a lot of cavaties and problems with your teeth. I've never regreted having mine pulled because it meant no more toothaches or gum infections in which I had been battling with since I was a child.

I was wondering if I was wasteing my time because this has been a everlasting thing it seems like. Yeah and I'm having the same problems infections flare up once a year, then they become abcessed then I end up in a specialist office having them to removed...

I can understand your dilema because I suffer from childhood to adulthood with tootaches, gum infections and abscesses. It does feel like you're throwing your money away and they never get better, especially since now dentists and orthodontist cause so much. My daugther had a root canal 5 yrs ago and they wanted $900 for that thank God for insurance. The cost to have 11 teeth cut out and my dentures costed $1500 and that was 13 yrs ago. So they why I say sometimes it the best way to go even if you have to the top first then later have the bottom done.
