Hi, I have a scratchy patch in my throat on and off (more on) 4 about a year and now a burning on the back of my tounge. Lately more saliva then mormal. I saw my primary care and he told me it's allergies. Prescribed me allergie meds ( i know i have very bad allergies too). When it didn't get better he sent me to an ENT. he said it was acid reflux. Prescribed me Previcid. My insurance wouldn't cover it and then gave me Protonix. It doesn't work so i stopped taking it. i still need something really bad and was wondering if i should try OTC Prilosec? has anyone has these types of symptoms and how do you treat it. Any help would be great. Thanks

The LPR kind of GERD, which sounds more like what you have seems to be more difficlt and take longer to cure than plain GERD. Usually you need stronger meds taken more than once a day and for much longer periods of time. I have several friends with GERD (the heartburn, Indigestion type) and have very good luck with OTC Prilosec. They will say, "I take the purple pill," while munching on sandwich with onions. Makes me want to slap 'em sometimes! LOL.

I have no prescription drug coverage, so I take 2 OTC Prilosec per day. It's pretty much the same drug as the uber-expensive prescription stuff. If I didn't take it, I would be living on white starch and skim milk and still in frequent pain. As it is, I can eat a reasonably normal diet, and only have to avoid a relatively short list of things.
If prilosec doesn't work for you, you can try fighting your insurance company for the other.
