View Full Version : Zantac vs. Pepcid vs. Tagament??

Hello. I am new to the world of Acid Reflux. I am also 30 weeks pregnant which limits the kinds of meds I can take and is probably the reason I have it now.

I pretty much have a constant feeling of my food being forced back up into my throat. Not much burning, but sometimes my stomach burns. It mostly just feels like food is stuck.

I have also had several episodes of severe chest pain that forced me to give back my dinner on a couple of occasions and almost sent me to the hospital. It's like the worse indigestion I've ever had multiplied by 1000. The pain is just as bad as a kidney stone.

I've taken Pepcid Complete for almost two weeks now and thankfully I haven't had anymore chest pain, but it still feels like my food is trying to come back up (whether I'm laying down or standing up). I'm absolutely terrified of having more pain episodes.

So, I was wondering if any of these three meds work better than the others?

I've used all 3 at one time or another,Tagamet, when first diagnosed. Then doc said Tagamet was and older med and more expensive. Then he switched me to Pepcid which didnt work for me at all. Then i was switched to Acidphex, which gave me stomach pains. Then was switched to Zantac and on it for yrs,Then the doc took me off it and put me on Prevacid, which works great for me.I take 1 pill a day and i can eat just about anything i like if i forget my pill im in trouble.Hope this helps.Take care
