Ok… I miscarried at 9 weeks and had a d&c done 9/17 (7.5 weeks ago). I have been bleeding/spotting on and off since the d&c (talk about crappy luck). My hcg levels finally went back to 0 sometime around 5-6 weeks after the d&c. Also, I had what I thought was a HEAVY, PAINFUL period that lasted for about 4 days during that 6th week. Ever since then, the spotting can be as light as a drop one day and then the next day, have dark brown spotting with brown jelly globs (sorry! That’s the only way to describe it).

So finally, I went today for an ultrasound to check everythings since I’ve continued the spotting (the dr. said some tissue could possibly be left up there). They found a cyst on my left ovary and she said it looks like blood is just “stuck” there. I guess that explains why the bleeding has never stopped completely.

My question is, will the cyst go away on it’s own? The ultrasound tech said they are usually caused by hormones. And will the cyst and the blood that is “stuck” affect ovulation for me? And when I had those 4 days of heavy painful cramps and bleeding, should I count that as a period?

I didn’t get to see the doctor. She said after he views the report, he should be calling me but I’m just looking for some quick answers/opinions.

Thanks!

Have you heard from the doctor yet?
I had issues with cysts for about a year now, but mine have always been just functional - never had blood in them. My RE said they are caused by ovulation and sometimes the egg gets 'stuck' and that's how some cysts form. Others form from just hormones and impending ovulation. There are many variables as to why they form.
Hopefully you will ovulate from the other side this time around and the one you have won't have anything to do with it :-)

As far as the bleeding, it would depend on if you ovulated or not since your d&c. My doc told me to stop temping for a while after my m/c, but I went ahead and did it anyway to make sure that I ovulated and I knew when it happened.

Good luck and I hope things work out for you soon!!!

Well, the doc reviewed the ultrasound. He is confident that there isn't any tissue left up there from the miscarriage/d&c. He has prescribed Provera for 10 days to "jumpstart" my cycle and hopefully get everything functioning again. I'm nervous and scared that it won't work. :( I've just been having the worst lately so I'm sure this will turn out bad as well. As far as the cyst, the nurse didn't express any concern. She said they come and go and are mostly due to hormones. Fingers crossed this Provera gets me back to normal. :(

Think positive :-) I know it's difficult. Just remember that things do happen for a reason - even though it may not make sense or be apparent right now. My m/c was a little over a month ago and I know it's difficult - I still cry and get angry and frustrated, but it just wasn't meant to be.

A friend of mine just took provera for a similar reason to 'jump start' her cycle. It worked for her and she's back on track, so I'm sure things will be fine for you!!

Hang in there!
