Hey!
I have never had an ingrown toenail, so I guess I am pretty lucky that way. But I have seen a couple procedures done in a podiatrists office. They numb the toe (they do use a needle), which I have heard is the worst part. And even that I have been told isn't too bad. It just stings for a second while it starts to numb so you don't even feel a thing. Then once its numb the Dr. removes the ingrown section and then bandages it up. And that's it! It takes about 10-15 minutes. If you are worried about how it will feel, just take along a CD player and concentrate on the music and you will be fine. Good luck if you have this done! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gifI hope this helped a little.

I have had an ingrown toenail fixed. The only part that hurt was the needle. It just felt weird after because my toe was so big, since they numbed it, the toe swelled up. But after a few days it was back to normal!

It depends on how bad the toenail is. I've had many that I caught in the early stages and didn't need a needle. It's a little painful but not too bad. I did have one toenail I had ingrown multipile times and they decided to remove a sliver of it perminately. Yes, the needle was the worst part. Don't look- your toe doesn't absorb the medicine quickly so your toe gets huge. I think the part that was more painful for me was the spray he used to kill the nail. Don't worry about the pain- worry about getting that toenail fixed asap!
