View Full Version : R.A.D? I'm confused...

I stated in my other post that I went to the doctor last week and was diagnosed with asthma. But I just looked at the diagnosis sheet that the doctor had given me at the end of the visit and it doesn't say asthma, it says RAD. What is RAD? Is it the same as asthma or something completely unrelated. She had also diagnosed me with gastritis and anxiety- is RAD something in relation to either of those maybe?
I'm confused. She said it was asthma but the diagnosis sheet doesn't say asthma anywhere on it.
Thanks ~Amelia

Hi

I think RAD stands for reactive airway disease. If you get a chance you should ask your doctor for sure.

Good luck and take care of yourself.

According to the Mayo Clinic, RAD (reactive airway disease) is a blanket diagnosis. Technically it doesn't mean asthma, but some doctors use it in place of that term - would mean the same thing. Others use it as a broad diagnosis and switch to the more specific asthma diagnosis after more testing indicates that you *do* have that disorder.

Thanks for your replies, you've helped me out.
It seems that the doc may do more testing on my next visit on the 3rd, since she just diagnosed me on last week's visit and my next visit it to check to see how well the meds are working.
But I'll ask her about it when I go in next.
Thanks again. ~Amelia
