I know this has been discussed before but I still have a question.
I currently take Calcium carbonate. From what I have read here on the posts it requires food (stomach acid) to dissolve and be absorbed. I take Zantac (before breakfast and dinner) for to decrease acid so does that mean the calcium is doing me no good? Calcium Citrate, I have read, does not need food / acid, so would I be better to be using it? Also on one post they said take the one with magnesium and D and another said never take calcium with magnesium, so does anyone have an opinion? I am totally confused. :(

Thanks....sunny47

Hi Sunny-yes, it is confusing. It sounds as if you may be better off with the citrate form, as it can be taken on an empty stomach. Re: the calcium taken with/without magnesium; it just gets too complicated to be micro-managing nutrients. It's all I can do to remember to swallow a mouthful of supplements 3x/day plus the strontium at least 3 hours after eating. I just down 'em after a meal and, except for the strontium, don't concern myself with what goes with what.

I agree starfish - alas! The novelty of this has worn off for me and I just down the darn pills!

Thanks for the responses. Think I will check out getting the calcium citrate rather then continuing with the calcium carbonate. As long as I am going to take the pills might just as well go with the one that might help more.

Take magnesium and D with calcium to help prevent bone spurs/stones.
ratio 300 mg magnesium to 600 mg calcium
