Hi guys
Just after some advise maybe somebody out there has had the same or a similar problem. I have had a 14month history of facial pain, jaw pain with swelling on left side of jaw, one and off molar pain with no diagnosis. I have seen numerous dentists, ENT's, maxillofacial specialists even a endontist who did a heap of testing on the tooth with no probs showing up. I have had MRI's and all sorts of other tests with no results. I have just been back to the specialist again and he is sending me for a bone scan to ensure there is no infection in the jaw bone ????. I am so over this I now have like a throbbing sensatation in the back molar with lightening bolt sensatations running through the tooth on and off. They still say the tooth looks perfect and it is not sore to touch or bite down on. Anybody ever had anything like this and finally come up with a diagnosis. The symptoms just seem to be getting progressively worse and really getting me down. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

may be you have an abscess or cyst.an x-ray can be taken to know what it is.facial pain says that it has spread in the facial planes.see a oral surgeon soon.
Thanks for your advise I have already seen two oral surgeons and had numerous scans and x-rays and I am having a bone scan done this week orded by the oral surgeon to check for any bone infection from a previous wisdom tooth removal quite some time ago. All other x-rays and things have been clear except one to say I have a stone in my parotid duct but they say that is not causing these symptoms.

Hi Matnliz.....there is always a possibility of TMJ or trigeminal
nerve syndrome. TMJ effects the face head joint and teeth
and many other areas of the face, neck, and body. Trigeminal
nerve syndrome effects only one tooth ad it runs from only
one of the facial nerves....am not sure which one it is ...Karen

Keep us posted on what you find. I have had the same pain for only 1 month. I went to the dentist and he could not find anything wrong.
I am not in your league with the suffering but there must be something someone can do. Has anyone suggested TMJ?
Good luck and I hope that you find some relief soon.
Hello there. I'm not an expert by any means: but I suffered from tooth pain for years: after every root canal I had, the pain kept on and on. Reading your post, it sounds to me like you have nerve damage. I now believe this is what I suffered from. I went to my dentist: he'd x-ray the sore areas in my mouth; say he saw nothing wrong. Then I'd go see my Endondtist; same story. None of them ever "saw" what the problem was: but I had pain in my mouth for a very lone time. Over time; very gradually, it did get better, on it's own. Now I just have occasional pain feelings in my mouth. I believe there are condtions/problems in the mouth that cannot be seen on x-ray. I KNOW this for a fact; for my pain was very real...I am grateful now that it basically went away; but I can sympathise with anyone who has long term, mouth/tooth pain. When I was going through it, no one understood me when I told them how much my mouth/teeth hurt. One lady told me "that isn't possible! teeth can't possibly hurt the way you claim your's do!". It felt terrible to have such daily pain; and be mis-understood by those around me. I hope your pain gets better soon. I feel for you! Debbie

Hi guys
Thanks so much for the replies and legallyblondied they believe that it is not TMJ or trigeminal neuralgia but I have my doubts . They just keep saying you have lots of symptoms of different things and not all the symptoms of one particular condition. (I am nearly giving up I tell you). Thanks for your reply twanger I hate to say but my pain 14months ago only initially started with facial spasm pain and swelling of the area just under my ear and has really progressed from there to nearly unbearable at times. I honestly hope you do not have the same probs but I will definately keep you posted I have a bone scan of my jaw on Thursday so will let you know how that goes. Sometimes it is just a relieve to speak to other people that actually understand and as you say loud that actually believe you have a problem.
Thanks guys

i do sympahise with you,i am going through similar problem,i have been to dentist to dentist and they cannot find also through x-rays what is causing my problem
ive not had a deep scan which i also would like to have done, does anyone know of a private cloinic in london or essex.to which i could pay to get this done?
it is causing me to be really ill,as i cannot sleep most of the time ,and in constant discomfort and pai a lot of the time, even with drink i still feel the discomfort and pain and dont know where to turn to next/
its also preventing me to eating much ,as it is too uncomfortable to eat most of time
why is it you know you have a problem and people close to you see you are in pain ,yet dentist says its pyscological?
i feel as they cant see the problem you must be imagine it:mad:
are dentists mad in thinking you keep going to dentist because you love paying their prices and you like dentists:mad:
they seem to be happy taking your money but then dont want to find out what could be going on or is it their ego;'s because they cannot find the problem and try shugging you off

My dentist actually asked me if I was in there because I needed attention.
NOOOOOO! If I need attention the last place I go is to the dentist and I would buy myself a book or something! Duh.
