Hi Guys
I had my right foot surgery done Tuesday. So far everything is going well and I keep my fingers crossed it will in the future too. For those of you who are about to have surgery might be useful to know how mine went. I had the first surgery for the day. Went @ the surgery center early in the morning 6:30 am. The surgery didn't start until about 8am. It lasted about 1 1/2hrs. Almost immediately after they put me in the operating room I was out of it. I don't remember anything and I did not hear anything. Woke up in the recovery room. I was naseous with dry mouth from the medications. It wasn't really bad, I could handle it. I did not have any pain in my foot at all. I was home by 11am. My doc told me to keep my foot elevated above heart level and to put ice on it. I feel pressure and throbbing but not really sharp pain or anything like that. Overall I think the surgery went well, I expected more pain than I actually have. It is very inconvenient to move around with crutches, especially if you try to do the things that you normally do. I keep restricting myself to just go to the bathroom and not much else. If I keep walking the pressure and the throbbing increase. So I just try to follow what my doc told me, I think that's very important. I had bunion removed and also the first metatarsal severed and streightened @ the base where the arch is. I'm not sure exactly where the screws are placed. I have post-op tomorrow and I hope I'll see the x -ray. Pretty uneventfull so far. I was very nervous but it's not really that bad considering the things that they did to me :-)

Hi, Thanks for writing about what you went through. I appreciate that. This board is great I think for support and help.
I have bunion surgery Dec.31. I figure with winter I won't have much to do and that way I wont have much to do and it wont be so hard. Hope all goes well. Hugs, Polly

Hi! It is wonderful to hear you are doing well. It sounds like you are doing much better than I ever did. I was bouncing off the walls for the first few days. I am scheduled for my second lapidus on Oct 15th and it's good to hear words of encouragement. I had forgotten what the whole thing is like. I am also going to inquire about this cold water machine. thank you

Hi Guys,
I had my splint replaced by cast today. I also saw the x-rays. There are 2 screws placed at the base of the first metatarsal around the arch area. I could see that the bunion is all gone, my foot finally looks streight although I didn't really have big bunion. I had a little accident yesterday, I fell down while walking with my crutches. I was affraid I did some damage to the foot but thank God the x-rays showed everythng was normal. My doc told me to start moving my big toe, it helps not building a lot of scar tissue. But I'm not supposed to overdo it because I might damage the stitches. My big toe is pinkish, it hurts a little when I move it. My doc told me if it starts turning blue or red that might be a sign of infection or too much swelling. So I need to watch for that and keep the foot elevated. Overall I'm happy with the results so far, I just need to be very carefull and patient. Good luck to you all in your recovery or future surgeries. I'll be posting more as I go along with my recovery :-)

To wasup254 - I'm sorry to hear about all your pain! Could be just a fluke and nothing is really wrong in the foot, but have to you talked to your doctor? I had a screw placed yesterday and it hasn't caused that kind of pain-- just pressure. So that alone shouldn't be the reason you hurt so much. If your pain meds aren't helping you should call the doc and see if he/she can't sort you out. Hope things look up soon!!
