I was on progesterone pills to prevent m/c when I was pregnant (obviously it didn't prevent it)....but we recently found out I have a few blood clotting mutations/disorders that are most likely the cause) but, yes, low progesterone levels can cause miscarriages, so taking it to prevent is the theory behind it.

While I was on it, I was extremely tired and moody. I don't think I had hot flashes, but just horrible fatigue.

From what I understand, low progesterone can cause problems with fertility. However, the OTC creams aren't reliable for maintaining a pregnancy because of how they are absorbed, and variable potency. Maybe you can check with your ob/gyn for a progesterone baseline and one after ovulation and see what your levels are and then, if you are indeed low, s/he can recommend a suppository etc...

Good luck!

Shona,

I'm sorry for your losses. No matter how early, they are tough.

Low progesterone can affect your ability to maintain a pregnancy. And the good news is there are medications that can help.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

I'll definitely be thinking about you and hoping for the best for you!

I'm doing well - just got all of our bloodwork back and looks like I have MTHFR mutation and elevated androgen levels - so doc said that is most likely what caused my m/c - put me on some meds to 'fix' them. My husband is going for his SA on Friday and once that comes back (hopefully good news), we'll sit down with the doc to discuss our plan. Hopefully we'll start again in January -I'm getting antsy now!

 I'm sending lots of good thoughts across the ocean for you

Thanks, Shona...same for you, I'm here ~anytime~.

Did they test you for the bloodclots? My doctor did a thrombophila panel which tested a lot of different ones. If you want, I can post the list of all the tests that were ordered. It was 22 vials of blood total, but it was worth it to me! Let me know...

As far as meds, I'm on 5mg of Folic Acid for the homocysteine and MTHFR in addition to the Prenatal Vit, 0.5mg of Dexamethasone for the elevated DHEA-S and I'm taking 1 baby aspirin daily - the nurse told me to take it, then on the next phone call, said I didn't have to. I'm taking it until I meet with the doctor in a few weeks. My husband goes for his SA on Friday so keep your fingers crossed that everything is ok with that

Your day is coming up next week - I'm hoping for you that everything works out this time!
