I HAVE BEEN ON TOPAMAX NOW FOR 2 MONTHS FOR MY HEADACHES BUT I HAVE NOTICED THAT MY PERIODS HAVE BEEN IRREGULAR SINCE THEN. I CALLED THE PHARMACIST AND HE SAID THAT IF I WHERE ON 200 MG A DAY THEN IT COULD BE CAUSING IT BUT SINCE I AM ONLY ON 100MG IT SHOULD NOT BE INTERFERRING WITH MY PERIODS. I AM GOING TO CALL MY OBGYN SOON ABOUT THIS, BUT JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE. :confused:

I've been on Topomax for several years. I take 50mg in the morning and 50mg in the evening. It's never caused my periods to be irregular, but what it did cause was extreme cramps, to the point the the OB suggested a hysterectemy (I'm 44, and have had my kids). I did some research and figured out that the Topomax could be the culprit (it's actually listed in the mile-long list of potential side-effects). So I decided to keep my uterus and just take hydrocodone when it gets really bad. Some months I need it, some I don't. I just know from experience that it does mess with the female reproductive system in some way and many doctors don't really seem to know too much about it. Do some research on your own. Look at the website for the manufacturer of Topmax. It should list ALL of the potential side-effects.
