I just recently decided to go on a diet, but I don't want to change my "habits" too quickly (as I will just go back to bad ones). One of my worst habits is drinking Mountain Dew non-stop. It's safe to say that I drink more soda in a day then water. So, I want to try "no-cal" sodas that don't have sugar in them.

Problem is, I hear a lot about these no-cal sodas (like coke zero). I read they cause weight gain (doesn't really make sense) and that artificial flavor causes cancer (this seems to be speculation instead of science).

So, would it be best to drink "no-cal" sodas instead of regular soda .... and then try to lower soda consumption later on?

The next problem is finding a no-cal soda that I will drink. I actually hate the taste of coke and pepsi, and the diet Mountain Dew taste horrible.

There isn't much creditable science behind the idea that fake sweetener causes cancer.

As far as weight gain: It doesn't cause weight gain, it just seems to if you study it the wrong way, because it's something that people with weight problems are more likely to consume.

If you really hate no-cal soda, how about flavored seltzers?

Soda in general, is bad for weight loss and health. The carbination it was does it in diet soda.

Try slowly taking yourself off soad. Maybe 1 Mountain Dew a day. Then 1 everyother day.

Drink tons of water.

I have been learning about the acidity in different sodas and it's amazing how acidic soda is. Acidity is a good thing to avoid.

Fake foods = chemicals = ??cancer??diasease??who knows?

My point is, I totally understand slowly changing your diet, I am the same way, I have to take it slow or it won't work. Try drinking water with lemon in it, or maybe Hansen's soda which is suppose to be more natural. You could even try Izzy soda, it comes in a smaller can. There are some other options, or maybe juices that you can turn to instead of the soda and gradually wean yourself??? I hope this helps!

Drink water!

Yeah you'll go back to bad habits - why did you decide to diet?

Worst case, each excess 100 Calories you ingest will add ten pounds to your weight. No excuses, no exceptions. If you're exercising, perhaps only 8 pounds or so, but it ain't trivial. None in water!

Yeah, you can use "diet" drinks - then you get to sit around wondering how many weird chemicals they've got in them. None in water!

Guzzle baby...
