Hi All,
I been signed up on the boards for awhile, but it is rare that i post. Today is one of those times. I have been reading the fibro board since my doc suspects that I have it. I felt like crying when I started reading!! So many people that understand how i feel!! While my GP has been good, he has sent my to a couple of other docs to rule other stuff out (since normal blood work is normal) The one i had today was a nero doctor. It was such a waste!!! I really think he had a preconcieved (sp?) idea and did not want to deal with me. Because I said I could feel the end of a paper clip, he thinks everything is fine then had me breath really deep and fast for about a minute and when had to stop because i was dizzy he ask if the tingling and pin/needles was there and when I said yes he said OK you don't have anything wrong execpt stress and when you are stressed you are beathing to fast and not getting enough oxegen, causing the nerve pain. He also said you have the fear of the unknown and not to worry I did not have a nero disorder and to get a pych done!! I never said I was worried about a nero disorder!!! I would think anyone would get dizzy from that!! The nerve issue is just one of many symtoms he did not ask for!! How fustrating this doctor was!!! What he did not know is that my doc can find my tender points and everything!! From what I have been reading alot of people with fibro have nerve pain (along with other stuff) I just had to vent a little!! Hope everyone is is well and thanks for all the great support and info!!!

jon, I am sorry you had such a bad doctor appt. Ignore him, his degree is in human illiteracy. My SIL is a nurse and my cousin is a cardiologist; many specialty areas such as neuros, rheumies, endos, and cardios can have a missing link. It is a treasure hunt to find good ones with compassion and human interests. My SIL sums it up like this, (especially for cardios, neuros and endos) they see really sick people many of who are dieing from illness they can't treat. For many of them all they know about FM is won't kill you so they don't take it seriously. To cope with the trials of their difficult job, they have to reorder their own internal links. We get what comes out, mostly crap. There are exceptions, thank goodness, and some of them have dedicated themselves to FM. Don't give up finding someone who knows more. Research and learn as much as you can so that you can assess for yourself if what a doctor is telling you is consistent or inconsistent with what you have read and learned. It is important to not leave yourself at the mercy of doctors who don't know enough about this disorder or you put yourself at further risk of their incompetency. Your health is not anything you want to gamble with.

What a creepy doc....of course, hyperventilation causes dizziness, muscle cramping, and fear because the normal cycle of the brain responding to the lack of oxygen is being messed with. Many neurologists don't believe in fibro which is incredibly dumb considering it's neurotransmitters that are involved in the feelings of pain, and many of the other symptoms of fibro... they need to get out of their own brains and read up on what happens in others' !!!!

Hey I am from CT maybe we can correspond on the board. I believe this is allowed. Fibro. really is a crappy thing that many docs don't or are not willing to understand. Believe me most of us on this bored feel your "PAIN!"

Hoo hoo! I understand totally. I saw a neuro guy, who happened to be the top dog at the local hospital, and he was clueless. I've never felt so much shame after seeing this guy. BUT! I finally found the right doctor, and he has taken good care of me ever since. It is hard to find the jewel in the pile of funk sometimes.

Blessings,
Kirstee

A lot of neuros can be real jerks. Some of them are almost as bad as surgeons, lol.

Don't let his clueless attitude get you down! Somewhere out there is the right doctor just waiting for you to find him. You just have to keep your chin and keep looking. There are still thousands of doctors out there who don't believe that FM is real. Most of them have never experienced chronic pain of any kind and can't even begin to fathom what it feels like.
