I've used Albuterol since I was 7 years old and lately it's been giving me a sore throat after I use it. Anyone else? My big fear is that it's not working as well as it once was. Could be in my mind, as this causes me great anxiety. It continues to stop the wheezing, but not sure why it's making my throat hurt. Also on an oral steroid for 6 days. Thanks.

Probably the oral steroid doing it. If it's the powdered stuff that you breathe in it will settle on your mouth and throat and cause irritation. If you read the instructions it says wash your mouth with water after each use.

Um. I think the original poster is referring to a 6 day run of steroid *tablets*, right? That wouldn't cause sore throat.

I don't know about the albuterol. I've always used a spacer with my MDI drugs, so that would minimize any side effects of those drugs anyway.

Some people think the new HFA inhalers are "drier." I don't find that but some do. Perhaps you just need to take a sip of water after using it. However, if you are using it daily, you should see your doctor. Your daily preventer (Flivent, Advair, whatever) is not controlling your asthma.

well advair and flovent are oral steroids but they come in a powdered form that you inhale and the powder causes irritation.

Flovent and Advair are considered "inhaled" steroids. Steroids in pill form are considered "oral."
