View Full Version : Question about Kidney Stone Symptoms

Hello everyone!
I've searched the boards to try to answer my own question here first but I still think I need more help. I've had numerous kidney infections in the past, but never once have I had a kidney stone. I'm very familiar with kidney pain, but not with pain associated with stones passing through the urethra etc. Here are the symptoms I have had so far... the strange thing is, and the thing that makes me wonder if it is a kidney stone is that I haven't had any kidney pain whatsoever...

Sunday
• 2AM - Intense pain in left, front lower abdomen that did not go away. Slightly relieved only when switched sides to sleep. Curling up made pain more intense.

Monday
• Pain in left groin area throughout day
• That evening pain began in groin and then radiated down to inner thigh and inner knee when I would stand or walk. Pain would also be in genital area – VERY PAINFUL.
• Aggravated when I would lift something or stand for too long.
• Could not lay on left side – had to sleep on right

Tuesday
• 5AM - Urinated – pungent smell, cloudy (sorry, TMI),
• Pain still in left groin area today and radiating to inner thigh at times
• Sometimes worse when walking
• Pain is more severe and persistent

Does this sound like a kidney stone? Thanks to all who take the time to read this and/or respond!:)

I am not a doctor but if pain is radiating down the leg, it can be a uric acid stone but it sounds more likely to be a herniated disc or ovarian cyst.

Oh, I feel for you!! I'm not a doctor but it sounds like a stone. I'm going thru it now. (I got the added bonus--a kidney infection!! woohoo!I've never had either one before in my life! ) A few things that may solidify the stone theory--Do you have urgency or frequency? Does "sudden jarring" (like the going over a bump in the road in a car) bother you? When dr. "gently" thumped (I say he "pounded" my back...) around my kidney area with a closed fist, I nearly went thru the roof!! I said "Don't do that" and he said "I have to-it'll tell me a lot" so apparently those are telltale symptoms, along with intense pain and position of the pain. I have that too--intense pain in the back, side and groin area in front, no position is comfortable. My urologist has decided I have kidney stones along with a kidey infection. Uric acid stones don't show up on a CT scan, so mine weren't visible. Hope you feel better. Thank goodness for pain meds.

however in case of stone or infection or both you need to see a doctor.
