At our local Alzheiner's Office. It would just be a couple of hours a week, answering phones, stuffing envelopes, etc. Just thought I would try to be of some help. Has anyone else done something like this? What did you think? :)

Go for it! There is nothing like helping others and reaching out to make us feel useful and much happier!

I think that is a great idea. I am sure they could use the help and giving something back is the best therapy there is. Once I get past the holidays and cleaning up Mom and Dad's house I will considered doing the same thing but at the nursing home I used to work with. WIth Mom and Dad now in AL I have some time on my hands that I have not had in a number of years. Thank you for a wonderful idea what to do with some of that time.

Love, Deb

Thanks Martha & Deb! I've really been stuck in a rut for awhile now, and need to get "out there". I'm too scared to apply for a job, I turn 55 this month. For the past 19 years have stayed home with my 2 kids (who are now teens) and one is away at College. The other is going to College next year. I help my Mom & FIL (he has vas. dementia) because neither one of them drive. I do work part-time at the schools in the office when they call. But I just thought working for the AD office would give me a chance to get out of my comfort zone and help others at the same time. I know it will help me too! Take care all - I know this road is not easy. My aunt, who had AD, died this month. She just fell over one day - what a blessing not to have to suffer and linger on and on. It's been a rough year for us, we've lost so many elderly loved ones and friends. Unbelievable. I guess it's just their age and their time to go - but it sure has been hard! God Bless you all. I think it's a great idea! I deliver evening meals once a week and it's been a pretty awesome experience so far. It's very rewarding.
