hi, janice again. is there some way to find a local support group? I live in the san francisco bay area, and the closest one I could find from the MS website was in oakland-I live on the peninsula. any suggestions?
thanks to you all-I am so relieved to have found this board to talk about things MSish.
thanks,
janice

Janice, did you actually call the MS society in your area? Not all groups are listed online...and new ones form all the time.
When I called the Jersey chapter of the MS society, I learned that there was actually a Philly and NY group which were both the same distance from me and neither were too far to go to, especially since they are only once a month.
Having been to those meetings was extremely beneficial to me in the beginning of my dx...I have since stopped going and use this online board as my main means of support; however some of the friends I made in that group I am still in contact with and will cherish forever!
Good luck and keep trying to find one. In that part of the country I would think there would be numerous groups..

Yeah I looked for one on the nmss site and the closest one is in pittsburgh for me I wish there was one closer or if enough people in my area would get together and get someone to start one. I think it would be easier to talk face to face with others that feel some of the same things i feel.

On my website, for my local group, the closest one listed is over 50 miles away; howver in calling them, they have updated lists which had 4 groups within 30 miles..call the National MS Society, get the local chapter on the phone and keep trying. There is help out there!

GOODY! Im glad you were able to get an answer. I dont know why they dont update their websites more often, unless things change that rapidly- but I had the same thing happen...first I thought NO LUCK only to find out TOO MANY TO CHOSE FROM! :D Thats not a bad thing!
Try it out and see how it goes...I think that there is benefit in going to a local group, but there is also benefit on staying in touch with us (anonymous) supporters as well...now and then, you run across something you JUST dont want to discuss face to face. Thats when we are here to "have your back". I also think that most MS groups only meet once a month or so, so its good to have us around as well for the inbetween times. Whatever you do, please let us know how you are doing healthwise ....
good luck!
