View Full Version : Effexor and blood pressure

I am in the process of switching from Zoloft to Effexor. One side effect that I have read about with Effexor is a rise and blood pressure and or LDL.
Has anyone had this happen to them, and if so, how long did it take? I am just thinking about when I should be getting checked for this possible issue. A month? 3 months maybe?

What is the dosage of Effexor you are going to use? I have read online that some people get High BP on doses like 225mg and 300mg. For me, I started Effexor 75mg and stopped it after 2 days. My blood pressure increased 10 points, but I'm already a hypertensive person. I'm not sure that it's the effexor though.

Hi Michael. I am prescribed the 75 but right now am on the starter kit 37.5 for a week. I think i am going to tell my MD to leave me on the 37.5 for a couple of weeks since I don't feel bad on it and then check the BP at the end of week 3. If it elevates the BP or has the same sexual side effects as the Zoloft I will move on to another one in any case. I am not a prior hypertensive but since I am on meds mostly because of Health anxiety the BP issue, while not necessarily harmful, is not something I want to to add to my situation.

Hi,
I'm back on Effexor XR 75mg again since last week, and so far my blood pressure is the same. I guess you will be fine. I hope this medication works for you, I'm waiting to see results but everyone says that it will take several weeks to feel better.
Good luck,
Michael
