View Full Version : Gleason 9 - Question on Stage

My husband was diag. with an orginal PSA of 31 and a Gleason grade 9 in 2005. He was told he is considered T1C. He was told that surgery was not an option for him because of the high PSA and high Gleason. His choice for treatment was radiation and Viadur implant. All bone scans etc. here clear when orginally diag. His PSA has dropped to .01. I have read that you need to know what stage your cancer is and that staging is very important. My question is since he did not have surgery - does anyone have any idea what stage his cancer would be considered or can a stage only be determined with surgery?

I think most pathalogical results after surgery is very close or the same as in Biopsy diagnostics (mine was at least and most threads i read attribute to the same fact ) , but to be 100% sure ...Yes you need a pathalogy report after the prostate being examine in a alab, however since his PSA is almost neglectable , and scans are clean , most likely he is cancer free ( i hope ) so staging of post OP is not as crucial unless PSA rises and another biopsy is taken ...
Good Luck
