Im a 23 year old female. For over a year I've been having ongoing lower abdominal pain and my stomach bloats out really far so I look like I'm pregnant. I also have constipation. The doctor simply told me I have IBS. Which I could handle if any of the medication they have given me has helped. Right now i'm on Reglan but this has not helped. I've changed my diet to combat IBS and have added fiber (nothing helps!) Along with this I have had acne and sudden weight gain (50lbs in 3 months) and still rising. I eat right and exercise. I don't understand because I've always been able to maintain my weight if I needed to.
Well recently I've also been having UTI's a lot and even urinated myself on accident *embarrassing* without even relizing I had to go. My muscles and joints have been hurting. I've been exhausted all the time and most recently has gotten greasy on just the back top of my head and my hair is getting thin there. Now my vision feels like it getting worse and it's really hard to consentrate. It basically feels like I have lost control of my body! I've had an an abdominal scan and a colonoscopy and nothing came from that. Im supposed to go to an endocrinologist but they can't get me in til' Feb. I need some sort of indication that I am going to be o.k because my doctors I've been going to don't seem to want to find the problem or just seem to think it's no big deal and just throw pain meds at me and tell me to come back in a month. I'm having a really rough time making it through each day with all these problems. Any sort of suggestion would be helpful on what this is!! Or even a suggestion on where I can go in Ohio that they can run the right tests. I'm trying very hard to not give up..but it's taking a big toll on my relationship, my family, my whole life it feels like. Thank you for your time.

Gosh you are struggling aren't you! IBS is not fun and it took us years to get a handle on things. Nothing seemed to work and it was always severe constipation or severe diarrhea with cramps. Over the past 15 years we have tried everything to figure out what helps. and finally we have found that if you can just get the bowels to move a little everyday you can avoid the extremes. We have recently started using Miralax(no over the counter) as directed and within a couple of weeks things started to be better. Also we need to use Milk of Magnesia any time there is tummy aches...we just know the bowels have backed up too far and cause it to push back on the stomach. I can't comment on prescription drugs because we just never went there. Now that is our solution...your journey maybe totally different and I'm not so sure all doctors really know what exactly to do as it is all trial and error. Try not to give up your search for something that works for you. good luck

just out of curiosity, has your primary doc ever tested your thyroid?what you have described all really does sound like hypothyroid signs and symptoms.one simple blood test done in your docs office could tell you.its your TSH.if you look up the symptoms of hypothyroid, you will probably see even more symptoms that would fit your current status.i would just speak with your doc and have him do that TSH on you.it wouldn't take long to find out the results.just a couple days for most docs offices.if this is indeed what you actually have going on,it can be corrected in most cases by simple medication taken every day.
while seeing an endo is good, you don't have to wait til then to find out whether you are hypo or not.your own primary just has to test you now.hopefully this is all that is wrong and can be corrected for you.please keep me posted. FB

From what they have told me my thyroid is fine. They have been treating me for pcos but the medication doesn't seem to help my symptoms go away. Now my doctor thinks i'm depressed because last time I went to see him I broke down and started crying. I'm not depressed! i'm just very frustrated! So he wrote me script for wellbutrine. I need to find a new doctor I think.
