i just saw that joe nuxhall [sp?] the baseball pitcher died of prostate cancer after having surgery in 1992. someone else died just few days ago in similar circumstances but i can't recall the name right now. lamar hunt a while ago. many people. i'd sure like to know their situations. does anyone know nuxhall's story? did he ever publish it in a book, or something?

btw, i read andy grove's [mr. intel, the chipmaker] chapter in a bookstore where the book described his numbers, and how he chose his treatment.

Hi CRS,

I've done some research on this because my father in law is dying from prostate cancer after RP 15 years ago.

After talking to our surgeon and others, the quickest way for PC to spread to outside areas is thru nerves. And we have lots of them. But, I suspect, and this is conjecture, that a lot of nerve sparing maybe the cause. Men are so concerned about sparing nerves, and surgeons can't see inside nerves during surgery so they do spare them, and they may contain questionable cells that later develop into cancer. My husband's surgeon wanted Open RP for that reason. He removed a piece of a nerve because it was "sticky", which tested negative for cancer BUT had Atypical cells which could later develop into cancer.

Now, my concern is, did he get all of it in that nerve bundle? etc....

How many others have nerve bundles with this situation and they are left in tact?

Is this the cause for reoccurrence?

My husband is young, 50. 15 years is way to young to have these results. It does worry me but I'm glad we went the route we did.

Lots of questions
